Cryptography has been a passion of mine for some time, in fact one of the first programs I wrote on a computer was an encryption script for IRC. The idea of hiding something in plain sight and your adversary being unable to read it has always intrigued me. However, as my knowledge of cryptography grew and as I studied and implemented modern cryptographic systems I came to realize… The algorithms I really love are the ancient ones. It's true that with a modern computer breaking them has become almost trivial, but for centuries they remained secure. With nothing more than a pen and a pad of paper it was possible to write messages, which would defy the worlds greatest crypto-analysts.
So here you will find the late and great ciphers of yesteryear, you will not find enigma, blowfish, RSA, AES, DES, 3DES, or any of the like. While they are fascinating and secure they don't have the same character that many of the classic ciphers have.
So allow me to close by extending a warm welcome to my fellow friends of Alice and Bob!
